100 Meter Dash
Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin ran away from the field in an oustanding 10.81, that just
missed setting a new Class AA State Meet Record. The time was good enough to give him the 2nd
Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Braxton's Easton Hutton and Point Pleasant's
Marquez Griffin ran under 11.15 in taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

200 Meter Dash
Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin ran away from the field in taking the win by over 0.7 seconds
in 21.86 seconds. His 21.79 trials time was good enough to be the 3rd Best All-Time Class A-AA State
Meet Performance. Magnolia's Stephen Rogalski ran 22.57 for 2nd with Braxton's Easton
Hutton clocking a 22.76 for 3rd. The top 5 all made it in under 23 seconds. One of my predicted
placers had the 2nd fastest qualifying time but scratched from the finals.

400 Meter Dash
Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin broke his own Class AA State Meet Record from last year as
he took the win by over 1.5 seconds. His 48.35 is Tied for the 6th Best All-Time State Meet Performance
and is the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Magnolia's Stephen Rogalski
joined Franklin under 50 seconds. Tyler Consolidated's Alex Doak was the only other runner to
go under 51. 4th through 6th were decided by just 0.2 seconds.

800 Meter Run
Scott's Will Shaffer led the field through the first lap in 60 seconds with Ritchie's Clint
Hardman and Berkeley Springs' Corey Shetler right on his heels. Hardman moved to the front
midway down the backstretch and eventually pulled away for the 1.1 second win. Hardman was the only one
to go under 2:00 with his 1:59.71. Shaffer's 2:00.81 was the only other time under 2:03. Only four
came in under 2:04, but 9 were in under 2:05, making for an exciting finish.

1600 Meter Run
Scott's Will Shaffer led the field through the first lap in 1:06 with Frankfort's Trae
Miller right behind. Magnolia's Bill Feeney was at the front of a 5-man pack battling
for 3rd,but really, there was an extended pack all in that fight. At the end of lap two, Shaffer
crossed in 2:14, having opened a gap on the field. Miller was still running 2nd in 2:17. Berkeley
Spring's Corey Shetler moved into 3rd with Feeney a stride behind. Sherman's Jacob Doss
was running 5th with Ritchie's Johnny Hogue in 6th. Lap three saw Shaffer extend his lead to
five seconds, coming through in 3:21. Shetler made the pass on Miller in the middle of the lap
and crossed in 3:26. Miller crossed in 3:30, still hosing 3rd. Feeney remained in 4th, coming
through in 3:32. Hogue had moved into 5th in 3:33. Doss, Magnolia's Alec Hinerman, and
Sherman's Brandon Purdue were battling for 6th, crossing in 3:34. On the final lap, Shaffer
took the final margin to almost 8 seconds, finishing in 4:27.71. Shetler easily held on for 2nd
in 4:35.45. Hogue made a nice move into 3rd, and then held off a late push from Feeney as both
came in under 4:40. Frankfort's Lucas Young made a big move on the final lap. At one
point in the final lap, he was in 12th place. On the backstretch, he was still 10th, but a big
final kick moved him up to 5th. Miller held on for 6th.

3200 Meter Run
Frankfort's Trae Miller led the field through the first lap in 1:08. By the end of the
2nd lap, Scott's Will Shaffer had caught Miller as the pair crossed together in 2:23.
Ritchie's Johnny Hogue was running 3rd, followed by the Magnolia pair of Bill Feeney
and Alec Hinerman. Westside's Cameron Davis rounded out the top 6. At the end of
3 laps, Shaffer had started to open a small gap on Miller as Shaffer came through in 3:35 and Miller
at 3:36. Frankfort's Shane Ickes was in 4th at 3:39, trailed closely by Hogue, Feeney,
and Hinerman. At the mid-way point, Shaffer had extended his lead to 6 seconds, crossing in 4:49.
Hogue had moved into 2nd, with Feeney and Hinerman close behind. Miller was 5th and Frankfort's
Shane Ickes had moved into 6th. On lap 5, Shaffer extended the lead to 8 seconds, coming
through in 6:04. Hogue remained in 2nd at 6:12. Feeney was in 3rd at 6:13. Grafton's P.J.
Louzy had moved into 4th at 6:14. Hinerman was in 5th at 6:15. One of the Frankfort guys
was in 6th. Lap 6 saw Shaffer take the lead out to 11 seconds, as he crossed in 7:21. Cameron
Davis made a big move up to 2nd in 7:32. Hogue was right behind in the same time. Louzy was in
4th in 7:33, trailed closely by Feeney and Hinerman in the same time. On lap 7, Shaffer maintained
his large lead, crossing in 8:36. Hinerman made a strong move up to 2nd in 8:47. Davis was in
3rd at 8:48. Feeney was in 4th at 8:49 with Hogue in 5th with the same time. Louzy was in 6th
at 8:51. On the final lap, nothing changed. Shaffer cruised home for the win in 9:50.75.
Hinerman closed the gap and got well away from the rest of the field and joined Shaffer under 10:00
at 9:56.66. They were the only ones to make it in under 10:00. Davis just missed the mark with
a 10:00.62. Feeney hit the 10:02's. Hogue was a 10:05. Louzy was a 10:07. They were over five
seconds ahead of the field.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Grafton's Nathan Bernarde pulled away in the last half of the race to take the win by over 0.4
seconds in 15.31. Only Greenbrier West's Dylan Trout and Point Pleasant's Cody Marcum
joined him under 16 seconds.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Grafton's Nathan Bernarde took the lead coming into the final stretch and pulled away to win by
over 1.1 seconds. His 39.10 is the 9th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance.
Ritchie's Jessie Hilvers ran a strong final stretch as well to move from 4th to 2nd, just edging
past Greenbrier West's Dylan Trout at the line by 0.01. Webster's Joe Collins led early
and held on for 4th. Shady Spring's Nathan Gillian scored a 5th place finish from the first heat.

4x100 Meter Relay
Point Pleasant's team of Zach Canterbury, Charles Walton, Anthony Darst, and Marquez Griffin
pulled away late to take the win in 44.63. Shady Spring was the only other team to go under 45
seconds.

4x200 Meter Relay
Point Pleasant's crew of Zach Canterbury, Charles Walton, Anthony Darst, and Marquez Griffin
took this one as well, dominating the field this time in winning by over 1.71 seconds in 1:31.79.
Magnolia was the only other team to go under 1:34. Shady Spring and Ritchie ran under 1:35.

4x400 Meter Relay
Keyser took a strong early lead on the lead leg of James Flint. They continued to hold a strong
lead after two legs. Point Pleasant made up most of the gap on the 3rd leg, crossing the line just a
stride behind Keyser. Point Pleasant received a sub-52 anchor leg from Zach Canterbury to pull
away for the win. The unit of Charles Walton, Caleb Riffle, Anthony Darst, and Zach Canterbury
scored a 3:32.20 to Keyser's 3:33.62. Those two had nearly a 2 second gap on the rest of the field. Oak
Hill won a tight race for 3rd with Berkeley Springs and Ritchie.

4x800 Meter Relay
Sherman led after 1 leg after a 2:03 opener from Jacob Doss. Frankfort was a close 2nd,
and Ritchie 3rd. Ritchie received a 2:01 leg from Jessie Hilvers to take control of the
race. They led by 8 seconds after 2 legs. Hilvers didn't even take the lead until almost 100
meters into the 2nd lap of his leg. Frankfort remained in 2nd, 8 seconds back. Sherman was holding
3rd at 4:17. Ritchie was still holding a large lead after 3 legs. Frankfort was still very
easily in 2nd. Ritchie was 6 seconds ahead of Frankfort, and Frankfort was 12 seconds ahead of
everyone else. Philip Barbour had moved into 3rd, with Magnolia close behind. I think Oak Glen
was in 5th and Oak Hill in 6th. On the final leg, Ritchie and Frankfort easily held their spots.
Philip Barbour just got past Magnolia at the line to take 3rd by 0.04. Sherman moved back up to
5th with Oak Hill holding 6th.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Greenbrier West's crew of Jabez Fleming, Colby Ennis, Devin George, and Dylan Trout used Trout's
strong anchor leg to overtake Point Pleasant. Greebrier West hit a 59.53 with Point Pleasant crossing
in 59.90. They were over 2 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Only Herbert Hoover ran under 1:02
among the rest of the field.

High Jump
Berkeley Springs' Michael Twigg was the only jumper to clear 6'2 in taking the title. Three others
cleared 6'0.

Pole Vault
Tyler Consolidated's Hunter LeMasters was the only vaulter to clear 13'6 in taking the title.
Paige Haught and Cody Hall cleared 13'0 and 12'6, respectively to score a big 14 points
Ritchie. Berkeley Springs' Matt Arrowood was the only other vaulter to clear 12'0. Only 6
vaulters cleared the opening height.

Long Jump
Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin repeated as champion with his jump of 21'9. He won the event
by nearly a foot over Magnolia's Kage Rohde. They were the only ones to go past 20'. Only four
jumpers went past 19'0.

Shot Put
Independence's Michael Green launched the shot 52'10.50 to win by over 2'. Shady Spring's
Houstin Syvertson joined him in throwing over 50'0. Only Point Pleasant's Kenneth
Livingston threw over 47'0 among the rest of the field.

Discus
Oak Glen's Ethan Delekta continued his season-long dominance with a toss of 159'4 to win by over
6'. That distance is also the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Lincoln's
Frank Wright joined Delekta over 150' with his 153'3 throw. Poca's Christian Buckley
threw 147' to take 3rd by almost 7'. Only Braxton's Jordan Lacy threw over 140' among the rest
of the field.
